Beating Your Case of the Mondays

After the weekend, sometimes Mondays can be a drag – here’s what you can do to turn them around

By Katlynd Poulton

It's Monday and when you hear that dreaded sound of your alarm, you might be feeling a bit like this...

It's understandable, we all get a case of the Mondays sooner or later and some of us more often than others! Everyone has their own reasons for why Monday can get us down and scientists have gone as far to find out WHY we hate Mondays, so much. Some of the Tech.Co findings included:

  • 70% of people experience complete disengagement while at work
  • Emotional shift from the weekend
  • Lack of sleep or change in sleep pattern over the weekend

And the one I found quite interesting...

  • You're more likely to suffer from a stroke or heart attack on a Monday

Of course, the list could go on and on, but here are a few ways you can turn your Monday around as soon as that blaring alarm clock wakes you from your slumber:

1. Wake up & be positive!

You might not feel like a million bucks, but you can still act like it! Having a positive attitude is half of the battle! Instead of focusing on the fact that your weekend is over, look forward to the week ahead of you! Changing your attitude for the better can change your entire future!

2. Eat a well-balanced breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Your morning menu should consist of healthy options such as fruits/veggies, yogurts, granola, eggs, etc. or whatever you find helps get you energized for the day! Breakfast is your fuel, so choose the best to help keep you going all day long! Experts say you should always consume your breakfast within 2 hours of waking up.

3. Find your motivation!

On a Monday you might resemble Marlin, rather than Dory. Look for your Dory!!! Find someone or something that helps motivate you to do your best! Don't wear your exhaustion or negativity on your face, find some inspiration and get to work! 4. Less of this...

...and more of this!

Instead of twiddling your thumbs or staring at that overly exciting white wall, start something! Find something important to you or your employer and see what you can create! What can you do to make a change or make a difference? Identify it and do it!

5. Look back & relax

Once the day is done, take a minute to reflect. Did you make the most of your day? Were you productive? Did you go into tasks with a positive attitude? If you believe you have done your best to turn your Monday (or any day) around, you've won! It might have taken a lot out of you or felt like an uphill battle but you beat the 'Monday Blues'; you accomplished something you didn't think you would and now that the majority of the day is done, it's time to relax!
